Now that we’re done with the digging and the dust it’s time to celebrate the renewal of Roncesvalles. On July 23, 2011, the day that streetcars will resume operation up and down Roncesvalles, the Roncesvalles Village BIA will host a grand opening event from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

There will be special events and fun for kids, a historical display of the Roncesvalles of old, a ribbon-cutting ceremony celebrating the return of streetcars to Roncesvalles after a long absence, live music, guided tours of the street via free hop-on-hop-off streetcars, and of course a sidewalk sale featuring the very best of what our shops have to offer. It promises to be a great day on Roncy!

The commemoration of the return of streetcars to Roncesvalles will take place shortly after 10 a.m. at the High Park Library lawn  at 228 Roncesvalles Avenue at Wright Avenue.

  1. Seems the Fords, if they get their way to eliminate the entire Toronto Streetcar Network (as the Toronto Star has reported) in order to pay for their pet Sheppard Subway Project, will render moot the celebration of the return of streetcars to Roncy.

I cannot think of a more lame-headed proposal.

Is there anyone in Toronto willing to stand up to the Ford Brothers’ proposal to scrap the streetcars for articulated buses in order to spend the money (currently allocated to Bombardier Canada to construct the 200 new streetcars) to pay for their ill-conceived Sheppard subway? I hope so!

  2. It’s a great forecast for today until late afternoon. Good day to be on Roncy celebrating and enjoying all the best our street has to offer.

  3. This is a little misleading. In real life, the robots would have to stand with the humans, away from the bicycle lane over the ramps.
